Guide: How well do I provide limits and consequences for my children?


In taking the assessment, please read each statement carefully and mark the number indicating how well the statement describes you. Although a certain statement might not be true of you all the time, indicate how true it is of you most of the time.
1 = Not true of me ... 5 = Very true of me

I teach my children by my example how to live.
I usually practice what I preach.
I do things in front of my children that I tell them not to do.
I help my children get started when I ask them to pick up their toys.
I try to think of ways to show my children the right things to do.
I don't make rules unless I am willing to enforce them.
I am willing to listen to my children's ideas and adjust the rules if appropriate.
I talk with my children about the reasons for rules.
Consequences for breaking rules are usually related to the misbehavior and are reasonable for my child.
I provide my children with opportunities to learn responsibility.
I encourage my children to make decisions.
My children are involved in chores appropriate to their age.
I talk about values with my children.
My children know to treat others with kindness.
I teach my children to show respect for all people.
I help my child to respect the differences in people.
I let my children solve as much of their own problems as possible before I offer to help.
I encourage my children to make many of their own decisions.
Our family does a good job of sitting down and talking about disagreements.
I see mistakes as opportunities to learn and grow.
When my child is in a program or activity I usually attend.
My child talks with me about school and friends.
My children are expected to tell me where they are going and when they will return before they go places.
My children like to invite friends to our house.
My children know other adults to whom they can talk if they need help.
I provide my child with opportunities to be around young, middle aged, and older adults.
I help my children solve problems with teachers or neighbors in a positive way.
