Motivate: How well do I encourage my children to be learners?


In taking the assessment, please read each statement carefully and mark the number indicating how well the statement describes you. Although a certain statement might not be true of you all the time, indicate how true it is of you most of the time.

I teach my children about their bodies and how they work.
I help my children appreciate and value their talents.
I help my children to understand and appreciate differences in people.
If my children have questions about something, I help them find answers from other people or in the library.
I provide hands-on experiences for my child to learn about nature.
I teach my child about the earth and nature.
I provide opportunities for my children to learn about people of different races and cultures.
I ask my children questions about the world around them.
I talk with my children about books, stories, etc., to stimulate their thinking and interest in education.
We make trips to libraries, museums, or historical sites.
I support my children in activities that they find interesting.

I help my children enjoy learning.
My children see me reading books, magazines, etc.
I find it hard to tolerate the messes my children make when they're making things.
I provide my child with interesting objects and materials for creativity and play.
My child has a place in the house to go for quiet and study.
My child has experience with computers or computer toys.
We limit TV watching so that we have time for study and other activities.
I help my children with their school work when they need it.
I try to be aware of what my children are learning in school so I can help them learn.
When my children fail something or can't do a task, we talk together about what could be done differently next time.
I encourage my children to think through problems rather than just tell them the answer.
I communicate with my children's teachers about how to help my children learn.
