Understand: How well do I understand my children and their development?

In taking the assessment, please remember to read each statement carefully and mark the number indicating how well the statement describes you. Although a certain statement might not be true of you all the time, indicate how true it is of you most of the time.
1 = Not true of me ... 5 = Very true of me

1 2 3 4 5
I take time to listen to my children.
I try to recognize my children's emotions, concerns, and struggles.
I can't figure out why my children do the things they do.
I treat my children according to their different ages and needs.
I think it is unreasonable to expect young children to sit quietly for a long time.
I know what to expect of my children at different ages.
I feel I have a good understanding about child development.
Sometimes children can not help misbehaving because they are too young.
I take time to watch and think about why my children do what they do.
I believe children will often act better if parents change how they are acting toward the child.
I believe that if you want your children to change how they act, sometimes it helps if the parent changes first.
I have developed plans to make it easier for my child to behave well in difficult situations such as car trips or shopping.
Sometimes children misbehave because they are tired, hungry or sick.
I believe that changing my child's surroundings can be helpful in preventing problems.
When my children are having a bad day I try to give them a little more attention.
I understand that my bad mood can make it harder for my children to behave.
